Privacy policy
mlyoung.cool is a static website built with Hugo. I do not store any first-party cookies or serve advertisements. I do not collect or track your data. I do not sell your data, since I don’t collect it. This site exists purely as a platform for me to write crap, I don’t have any interest in data analytics.
However, in saying this, I do use some third party services, which may collect your data:
- This website is hosted by Cloudflare, whose privacy policy you can read here
- You will interact with Cloudflare by visiting this website and/or if you are flagged as a bot by their systems
- I have intentionally disabled Cloudflare’s JavaScript tracker tag injection, so you should not be sending any data to Cloudflare other than that which your browser sends already through headers
- Cloudflare’s backend allows me to see a sampling of connected IP addresses, estimated approximate geolocations (based on IP address), user agents and other request parameters in its security panel. It’s my understanding that this data is only retained for 30 days, since I don’t pay for Cloudflare.
- Some articles embed YouTube videos. By viewing these articles, your data is most likely going to be siphoned
and quite possibly sold by Google.
- I would like to respect browser Do Not Track (DNT) requests and disable YouTube embeds, like Adafruit does, but since this is a static website I’m unable to read browser headers. Maybe something could be done client side
- In any case, if you object to YouTube, you’re welcome to browse this website JavaScript-free (e.g. with NoScript/uBO), and it will still function relatively fine minus YouTube
- This website (unfortunately) uses Google Fonts and jsDelivr as CDNs because I’m lazy
- This will eventually be self-hosted, but until then, these services may collect data on you. Please refer to their respective privacy policies.
- The site will work (mostly) fine if you choose to block these resources in your content blocker (e.g. uBlock), and you are more than welcome to do so.
- If you click onto any third party websites I link in my blog, those services may track you, of course.
As always, you are encouraged to use Firefox (or a fork of your choosing) and uBlock Origin.
This website should be fully GDPR compliant as it does not store any data. Data removal requests would need to go through the aforementioned third parties. However, if you have any issues on this topic, please email: privacy@mlyoung.cool, and I’ll see what I can do. Thank you!
